Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Jackson Charged

HOUSTON – Actress Elizabeth Taylor and singer Michael Jackson were the best of friends and the two of them perished within two years of one another; unfortunately, their names live on in the Harris County District Court system for all the wrong reasons.

Elizabeth A. Taylor, 53, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, a felony offense, based on an incident that took place Monday when she was arrested. She was convicted of felony possession of cocaine on July 17, 1996.

Michael Raven Jackson, 44, was charged with felony theft based on an incident that took place Jan. 24. Police say Jackson stole a container of toothpaste, four bottles of body wash, one razor, and one detergent container from a CVS/pharmacy on Old Spanish Trail near Scott Street in southeast Houston. The total cost for all the items was $60.12.

A loss prevention specialist at the CVS/pharmacy told police he observed as Jackson placed the stolen items in his pants and tried to walk away from the store, accompanied by an unidentified female.

Between 1988 and 2010, Jackson was convicted twice of misdemeanor theft and once with possession of a controlled substance. Jackson was also convicted in July 1992 of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Michael Jackson’s alloy will not testify

Nov 1, 2011, 20:42 GMT

Jackson died from an overdose of the drug propofol, a hospital anesthetic that was meant to combat Jackson’s insomnia, but instead gave him a heart attack.

Closing arguments in the six-week long trial of Dr Conrad Murray, 58, are slated to begin Thursday.

The prosecution on Tuesday again called narcotics expert Steven Shafer to the stand, in order to clear up some final details following days of earlier testimony that had blamed Murray for Jackson’s death.

Prosecutors charge that Murray was negligent in giving Jackson the drug inappropriately, and without adequate monitoring equipment or personal supervision, as well as delaying in calling for emergency services.

The final defence witness in the trial returned to the witness stand Monday and admitted under cross examination that the treatment Murray gave to Jackson veered radically from standard medical procedure.

Murray has pleaded not guilty to the charges of involuntary manslaughter and faces up to four years in jail if convicted.
