The movie Accepted is more of our generation now because we understand the pressure to get into college now more than ever. There are many students that don’t get into the colleges that they want to and the understandings of being rejected. College sets you up for the rest of your life, so when you are rejected it’s kind of like a slap in the face because you realize what you have done in the past effects what you want to do in the future. Twenty years ago college was not a necessity as it is now, careers that never needed training or a degree require one. The closer we get to applying to colleges the more we understand how important it really is.
Technology today is more advanced than ever. You need software for almost whatever type of career you are in. Then there is training behind that software. You must be able to know how to use it, read it, and understand how to work it properly. College is even demanding more technology upon students with having to have laptops and certain software. The infusion of computer-based learning applications and environments into the curriculum to the degree that what was of marginal utility to most in 1983 is an essential tool for all in 1998. (Gates, Katherine F., Nov 3, 1998. Should colleges and universities require students to own their own computers?. Nov 8, 2009. http://net.educause.edu/ir/library/html/cem/cem98/cem9839.html) In today’s society even garbage men and janitors needs some level of a college degree. Whereas twenty years ago anyone could have the job and be making decent money for a standard type of living. Our economy has gone down so bad now that the standard living price has increased dramatically and more and more people are finding themselves in debt. For the people whom don’t have any level of a college degree have now become the low class in society.
We both as becoming nurses have realized that there are more different types of careers out there but still in the same field of nursing. We both have had to try very hard to get into college and now that we are here we have to try even harder to maintain a good GPA. We are at different levels right now because of ACT scores so we understand how taking a test can differentiate the classes that you take your first year of college. Kelsey does not have to take any math classes since her math score was above average whereas Amber does. Although Amber takes less classes than Kelsey so that she doesn’t overwhelm herself. In life there are more careers being created. There are many different types of nurses, doctors, therapists, teachers, and many others. In the teaching field you can major in sociology, English, math, drama, and science. Instead of majoring in one specific pathway such as Fisheries and Wildlife. With those careers comes training and in that training you have to be able to withstand the emotional and psychological pressure. Nursing has much emotional and psychological pressure due to the fact of people dying and having to deal with the families loss. One needs to be able to express gratitude but still be able to perform well. Classes have you work in the hospitals to experience this to some level so that you are able to see if that would be able to work in that field.
College’s require so much more now then they did twenty years ago. You have a certain ACT score and requirements throughout high school that you have to finish. Obviously you have to graduate high school, then there are certain things that help you get accepted faster like honor roll, student council, and extra curricular student activities such as sports. Many people get scholarships and grants to help pay for college and others whom are good at certain sports can get a full ride scholarship into college as long as they play for them. College spots are being filled faster each year and at some colleges like Mott Community College there is a waiting list for the nursing program. While at other colleges there isn’t a waiting list, It’s either you’re good enough to get in or try somewhere else. Even after you graduate college you may need to go back to get a higher degree in what you are perusing. Such as in nursing, if you want to go back to get a higher degree sometimes the hospital you are working at will pay for college for you as long as you agree to work there for a certain amount of time after you finish. If on the other hand you can’t do that you whined up juggling a job and school at the same time. Then the job you are working at the moment is only paying for you’re college and no other bills that you may have. So the expectations on high school graduates has increased because not only are other high school graduates applying but other adults looking for a higher education are also trying to get in the same places that we are.
Applying to college has become harder over the past twenty years and there is more expected of us. Our generation is pressured heavily on going because there are very few other jobs ou
Do you think it’s ok for an older man (Kelsey Grammar) to leave his wife for a much younger girl?
He’s married with 2 (or 3?) children, met a 20 something flight attendant and is now saying he wants to marry her (before he’s even divorced). I would guess he’s in his 50′s. Do you think it’s ok to break up a marriage over “love” if a guy falls for a younger hot woman? I just don’t like him any more and find that slimey (my 60 something year old bf left me for a 21 year old so I have some personal anger attached I guess). I think it’s selfish and shallow. You?
I also read when he was married to his 2nd wife (a stripper) he cheated on her with a hair dresser and when the wife found out he impregnated the hairdresser, she miscarried with her own pregnancy out of stress. And now he has impregnated the flight attendant and his wife had to find out through the tabloids. I think he is an insensitive TRASH.
