@ShadyEsperanto: And now she wants to take her horseshit to the next level by running for Senator. I think Cali is boned enough, Carly, thankyouverymuch.

When I saw the headline I knew it was going to be Castilleja, but you really should lighten up…large gifts from Hewlett-Packard to support the science department of this school are a long-time tradition. Castilleja was founded as a feeder for girls to get into Stanford, and David Packard had at least one daughter who attended Castilleja way back when. I attended in the 70′s, and our science lab was named the David Packard Laboratory (if memory serves.) Google it, you’ll see. I’m disappointed to see Gawker digging for dirt that’s not there.

Of course, my thought on reading the headline was “aren’t they supposed to funnel money to elite prep schools?” I thought that was just a given in these situations. Call me cynical, but I can’t help but think that knowing the condition of its data center, the school took an active interest in making sure that the “HP girls” were high on the acceptance list.

Now I am sure each and every one of them is more than qualified to be at this school, but it never hurts to have connections. Worked for “W”.

Bill and Dave are rolling in their graves. What a mess this once superb company has become. I’m looking at you, Fiorina.

@OneViewHere: My school’s “data center” (we all had laptops) was a small closet wherein there sat an angry man named Jorge, who was squeezed in between stacks of loaner laptops and wires while he fixed buggy laptops that were covered in glittery stickers and white-out.

Wow, I must be behind the times. Since when did grade-schools have DATACENTERS?

Are you sure this isn’t simply an upgrade to the “server closet” in the boiler room behind the janitor’s mops?

Has anyone checked Bill and Dave’s graves lately? I mean, seriously, this amount of turning and spinning surely is causing some serious structural issues in their tombs.

I know the folks at Castilleja are more familiar with show horses than livestock, but if any of you are reading this, it’s “baling wire.”

Damn, I was hoping it was my elite prep school so I could stop ending them $50 a year.

Maybe this explains why my HP laptop is a PIECE OF SHITE.

This is unrelated to any allegations of financial impropriety, but Castilleja is famous for some seriously lesbionic interludes. I’m just saying.

As with so many scandals, it’s rarely the act, but the cover up that gets you in trouble.

ETA: In this case some of the funding may have come from corporate gift matching. If an employee makes a contribution the corporation will often match the gift. The school’s website says that HP matches. ([www.castilleja.org] pg 8)

That doesn’t fully explain the tripling of money though since it would usually only double a contribution.
